Amazon FBA Wholesale: How to Find Profitable Brands and Get Approved

Amazon FBA wholesale means buying existing branded products from the brand or an authorized distributor and reselling them on Amazon. You skip product development and brand building, but you compete on the same listing as other sellers. Done right, it is one of the most predictable ways to build an Amazon business. Done wrong, it leads to suspended listings and dead inventory. Here is the process we use.
1. Set up the business before you source
- A registered business (for example a US LLC) with a matching bank account.
- A Professional Seller Central account in good health.
- A resale certificate where your state requires it, so suppliers can sell to you tax-exempt.
- A clear budget split: inventory, prep and shipping, software, and a reserve for slow-moving stock.
2. Find products worth selling
Good wholesale products share a few traits. Check each one with price and sales-rank history before you contact anyone:
- Steady demand: a sales rank that stays healthy all year, not one seasonal spike.
- A healthy Buy Box: it rotates between several sellers and the price is not falling month after month.
- Amazon is not a seller, or only appears occasionally. Competing with Amazon itself for the Buy Box is hard.
- A manageable number of FBA sellers, so your share of sales is worth the inventory.
- Room for profit: after product cost, referral fee, FBA fee, prep and inbound shipping, aim for a return on investment you are comfortable with. Many sellers look for 25–30% or more.
3. Contact brands and distributors the right way
Buy from the brand or an authorized distributor, never from liquidation lots or unknown resellers. When you reach out:
- Introduce your business professionally and explain how you will protect their price and listing.
- Ask for their wholesale price list, minimum order and terms.
- Keep every invoice. Amazon may ask for invoices from your supplier to prove authenticity, and they need to match your business details.
4. Handle ungating and brand approvals
Some categories and brands are restricted. Approval usually needs invoices from a legitimate supplier, and some brands also require a letter of authorization. Apply before you buy large quantities, so you do not end up with stock you cannot list.
5. Reduce IP and account risk
- Avoid brands with a history of filing complaints against resellers unless you have their written permission.
- Never list a product as “new” unless it truly is, and match the listing exactly (size, count, version).
- Watch your Account Health page weekly and answer any notice quickly with documents.
6. Manage inventory like a business, not a bet
Start with smaller test orders, track how fast each product sells, and reorder based on real sell-through. Keep an eye on storage fees and price drops so slow products do not tie up cash.
